Forget about the hustling Ho Chi Minh City and commence the scenic journey to My Tho City via the National Highway with green rice fields at two sides (seasonally). On arrival at My Tho City, enter Vinh Trang Pagoda to admire a perfect hybrid of Chinese, Vietnamese and Cambodia architectural styles. Then, board the boat and leisurely cruise along the river to view stilt houses, fishing villages and fruit plantations at two banks. Proceed towards Tortoise Islet and enjoy your lunch in the orchard garden.
After taking the boat to An Khanh (a less touristy attraction in Ben Tre), you will be rowed on small sampans through natural canals where green palm tree leaves, bending down on the water, create an interesting and charming picture. While letting yourself free to enjoy cool breeze and the shade of the palm trees, you can see the tranquility of the local life at the canals’ sides.
It will be great to taste seasonal fruit, sip honey tea, and listen to Southern Vietnamese folk music performed by the local people. Have a visit to a family business – a typical example of the rustic and peaceful life in the Mekong Delta. Later, sample coconut candy and peer down into the pastoral life while taking a walk through the fruit plantation. Continue the trip to Can Tho and stay overnight at your chosen hotel (family home-stay with dinner can be arranged on request). It is free time to discover the high-octane Can Tho market.
Option 1: Stay at a hotel in Can Tho
Check in at your chosen hotel on arrival at Can Tho. The evening is free time to discover the city on your own. Stay overnight at your chosen hotel in Can Tho.
Option 2 : Homestay
Take a motor boat to a small village in Cai Rang District. Check in at your riverside cottage. You will experience either of the following activities: cycling or trekking around the village to know about the rustic and calm lifestyle of the Mekong Delta people. Prepare and enjoy your dinner with the local host. Then, have an amusing evening of traditional folk music with your neighbor. Stay overnight at your riverside cottage.
In the early morning, take a boat trip (around 5:30AM) to the bustling Cai Rang Floating market – a wholesale market of vegetables and fruits in the Mekong Delta. Cruise along the small channel system and set foot at a rice noodle-making village. Make a try at crossing the “Monkey Bridge” – a traditional bridge of Southwestern Vietnam. Also, having a visit to Phong Dien – the smaller and quieter floating market is optional for the private tour. Take a break for lunch. Head towards Chau Doc City and make a sightseeing trip of Tra Su Cajuput Forest – also a wild bird sanctuary. Cruise leisurely on small boats along eye-catching waterways deep into the forest. It is a chance to watch storks, cranes, and other tropical birds. En route visit Sam Mountain and the Cave Pagoda (if we have enough time). Return to the Chau Doc City, check in at your hotels, and stay overnight here.
Enjoy your breakfast, and then take the boat through the floating village to visit the fish farm. Here, you will witness how the river people raise fish from their floating houses. Visit the Cham minority and explore the traditional weaving village. Be transferred to a speed boat for Phnom Penh. Hit Sisowath tourist dock in Phnom Penh at around 2:00PM. End our tour.
